TORONTO - In a significant shift within the Canadian music industry, there is a notable change in leadership at one of the country's most distinguished record labels, as Julie Adam steps into the pivotal role of president and CEO at Universal Music Canada, a position that places her at the forefront of the music landscape in Canada.


Adam's appointment comes as she takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, a figure who has been instrumental in shaping the direction of Universal Music Canada over the past decade. Remedios has held the position of chairman and CEO, during which time he has overseen a period of considerable growth and innovation within the label.


Following his tenure, he will transition to a new role as president of strategic development at Republic Collective, a division of Universal Music Group that encompasses a variety of well-known labels, thereby ensuring that his extensive experience continues to benefit the broader organization.


Julie Adam, who has been serving as the executive vice-president and general manager of Universal Music Canada since March 2023, has made significant contributions to the company during her relatively short time in that role. The company has credited her with enhancing operational resources and driving impressive revenue growth, particularly in the realm of online sales, which has become increasingly vital in today’s digital-first music industry.


Her strategic vision and leadership qualities are expected to further elevate the label's profile and foster new opportunities for artists under its banner.

Prior to her impactful role at UMC, Adam held the position of president of news and entertainment at Rogers Sports and Media, where she played a crucial role in overseeing a diverse portfolio of media properties.


Her extensive background in media and entertainment has equipped her with a unique perspective on the evolving landscape of the music industry, and her experience is anticipated to bring fresh insights and innovative strategies to Universal Music Canada as it navigates the complexities of a rapidly changing market.
